Our story began in 2013 with the creation of East Village, the UK’s first large-scale, build-to-rent neighbourhood. We started with a vision to disrupt the rental market, delivering high quality homes for rent with security of tenure and neighbourhoods where people could thrive as part of a community. East Village was, and still is, driven by a resident proposition which delivers the best in choice, service and environment.
Since then, our UK-wide footprint has consistently grown. Our second major urban neighbourhoods, Elephant Central in Elephant and Castle, opened in 2017 and our third, New Maker Yards in Salford launched in 2019. In 2024 we grew significantly, launching two new neighbourhoods in the year and taking our total neighbourhoods to five. These included our first suburban scheme, One Maidenhead in Berkshire our third London neighbourhood, the Filigree in Lewisham. The Oakgate in Leatherhead and our debut neighbourhood in central Birmingham, Sherlock Quarter, both launched in early 2025.
That growth has taken our total operational homes to 5,761 across the UK’s major urban centres, such as London, Birmingham and Manchester. We have ambitions to grow further, with 485 homes under construction at one of the Capital’s major regeneration projects in Elephant and Castle which will see us also deliver 135,000 sq ft of commercial space, 55,000 sq ft of workspace, a state-of-the-art campus for London College of Communications and a new entrance for the Northern Line tube. A further 1,346 homes are in the development pipeline.
All of our neighbourhoods are unique and designed to become an integrated part of the wider community, but they share the same blueprint that makes a Get Living neighbourhood: energy efficient homes accompanied by public realm for all to enjoy, amenity space and often a retail offer that is tailored to the local need, and a programme of events and community engagement that bring people together.
From the outset our objective has been to offer a new way to live and rent, led by fairness, transparency and a compelling resident offer. That is why we don’t charge admin fees and we offer tenancies of up to three years with a resident-only break clause after six months. We know that people want to put down roots and live somewhere in which they feel that they belong, so our residents have the freedom to decorate their home and our neighbourhoods are all pet friendly.
Whilst Get Living is powered by technology, we also know that having people on the ground to help is important, which why we have resident teams in each neighbourhood six days a week to provide support, as well as security on-site.
Our ambitious growth journey is set to continue with a further 1,831 homes in the development pipeline, which includes 485 under construction at Elephant and Castle, all catering to high demand for new, energy-efficient rental homes, delivered in tandem with a tailored retail and dining offer.
In 2026, the highly anticipated Elephant and Castle regeneration scheme, The Elephant, will launch. Set to transform the town centre, The Elephant will bring new homes for rent, including 172 affordable homes, alongside new shops, restaurants, leisure operators, a new campus for London College of Communications (part of the University of the Arts London) and major infrastructure upgrades.
We are backed by long-term, purpose-driven shareholders, APG, DOOR and Aware Super, all of which share our vision and support our strategy for growth.
As we grow, we know that we have a responsibility to our residents, to wider communities and to the planet. That is why underpinning all that we do is our commitment to reducing our environmental impact and adding social value to the communities in which we operate.
