Get Living has announced that independent operator, The Arc Cinema, will open a new nine-screen venue at The Filigree, its mixed-use neighbourhood in the heart of Lewisham, London.
The new cinema will become The Arc Cinema’s ninth UK location and will feature its premium large-format HYPERSENSE screen – one of only four the operator has introduced nationwide.
It will also include 4K laser projection, immersive Dolby Atmos® surround sound and luxury recliner seating in every screen, and designed to deliver a high-quality viewing experience, while remaining welcoming and accessible to local audiences.
The venue will form a key part of The Filigree, Get Living’s mixed-use neighbourhood that combines new homes with a curated mix of retail, leisure and community spaces.
It has been designed to create a lively and inclusive destination that supports local businesses, generates new jobs and encourages people to live, work and spend time locally, contributing to the continued regeneration of Lewisham town centre.
Michael Roberts, Head of Asset Management, Get Living, said:
“We’re pleased to welcome The Arc Cinema to The Filigree. Cinema plays an important role in creating places where people come together and The Arc Cinema’s focus on quality, accessibility and community makes them a great fit for our vision for the neighbourhood. Its arrival is another important step in building a lively and inclusive destination that benefits both residents and the wider local area.”
Brian Gilligan, Director, The Arc Cinema, said:
“We’re incredibly proud to be bringing The Arc Cinema to Lewisham and to be part of The Filigree development. It’s an honour to join such an important project, and we’re genuinely excited about creating local jobs, welcoming new team members, and playing a positive role within the existing Lewisham community.
“We’re looking forward to introducing The Arc Cinema’s special blend of luxury recliner seating, friendly local teams and great-value pricing, alongside a broad programme of films and community activity. Our aim is for the cinema to become a welcoming, inclusive space — a place people feel comfortable returning to week after week, and a long-term cornerstone that complements and supports the area around it.”
Cllr James-J Walsh, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Regeneration & Planning, Lewisham Council, said:
“I am pleased to welcome The Arc Cinema to Lewisham. For the first time in 25 years, a traditional, multiplex cinema will be returning to the borough as part of our long-term town centre regeneration.
“Lewisham Council is focused on creating a safe, lively town centre where people can spend time locally, support small businesses and enjoy culture day and night. After listening carefully to residents, the council secured a new nine-screen cinema from the developer at no cost to the public.
“The cinema sits alongside major improvements already underway, including the refurbished market, our new library and plans to renew the ageing shopping centre, which will include a not-for-profit live music and culture venue, all shaped by what residents have consistently told us they want.
“We know delays following the flooding at The Filigree have been frustrating, so it is encouraging to see meaningful progress and long-term certainty towards delivery of this important community space. This reflects our commitment to inclusive regeneration that invests in culture, community and opportunity while protecting public money.”
Following a significant flood at the energy centre in February last year, The Filigree has been temporarily closed. Since then, Get Living has been working with the site’s developer, main contractor, and other parties to progress the works required for the development’s return to full operation. Get Living’s aim is for the site to be fully operational by the end of 2026.
Leasing of The Filigree’s commercial units is progressing well, with further retailer and leisure announcements expected in the coming months.
